“Slowly, quietly, like snow-flakes—like the small flakes that come when it is going to snow all night" CS Lewis
Winter snows blows through like an uninvited guest, raising eyebrows, inviting sighs and annoyance to the humans below.
Ruining their plans for their busy, full day.
Creating fear in those whose tires are crunching and sliding them on their way.
Sweeping aside flakes and ice, an unwelcome chore in their already laden life.
Creating more silence inch by inch, happening slowly, ever growing.
Silencing roadways, thought ways and pathways. Snowing.
Keeping to its stubborn ways of bearing down with no hesitation, no apology, but no aggression.
In floats this lesson.Steady and heavy, slowly and silently.
Eventually the slowness and silence creeps into the humans minds unknowingly.
The fire of fury is put out by the ice cold heaviness, seizing the grind.
They give in. Some willingly, some consciously, some not.
Jam packed minds that woke up hot.
Coals now smoked, thoughts unprovoked
By the end of the day the snow has brought a gift of stopping, sitting, staying still, burrowing in to our homes, and staying warm against our will.
Warm drinks are poured. We stop. We take fresh notice of our kin.
The silence has been spread. The stillness has settled in.
We surrender and feel thankful to our foe,
Our friend, the snow.
